Our team is made up of consultant psychiatrists, registrars-in-psychiatry, registered nurses, allied health clinicians, GPs, consumer and carer consultants, as well general staff. We also are routinely visited by pharmacists, dieticians and physiotherapists.
What roles make up our team?
The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management of the unit. This role ensures the whole team works collaboratively to provide our services.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental health. They utilise interventions that work on biological processes, typically through the prescription of medication. Psychiatrist will also employ ‘talking interventions’.
Our Registered Nurses in Mental Health are specialists in the field and are knowledgeable and experienced in the nursing care of people who are struggling with symptoms of mental ill health. For example, they know the manner of conducting observations (visual, mental and physical), they know the intricacies of medication and they know how to talk to you and help you learn and practice skills.
Our allied health clinicians, made up of social workers, clinical psychologists and an occupational therapist, are responsible for facilitating therapy groups. They use ‘talking interventions’ and engage patients in activities and exercises that facilitate the use of new (or existing) knowledge and skills. Our clinicians will offer brief interventions depending on an individual’s needs, such as creating a plan to learn how to manage different contexts and levels of anxiety, assistance with accessing other services and organising education tasks.
Our General Practitioner is a medical doctor who will assess and treat any physical illnesses that you might be experiencing, such as a flu and help with contraception, etc.
