The Department of Ophthalmology at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney provides a complete range of ophthalmic medical and surgical procedures. We have specialists covering every aspect of ophthalmic treatment who are recognised as leaders in their field.

In addition to specialised treatment, routine eye examinations and visual assessments are carried out. Members of the department have access to the most modern ophthalmic surgical equipment in the Day Surgery Unit as well as access to all forms of medical ophthalmic laser treatment. The Day Surgery Unit is fully equipped for all aspects of cataract surgery, corneal transplantation surgery, pterygium surgery, glaucoma surgery and oculoplastic surgery. Our consulting rooms have the latest diagnostic ophthalmic equipment, including:

  • visual field analysis
  • corneal topography
  • retinal photography and angiography
  • ophthalmic ultrasound and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for detailed optic nerve evaluation, especially for glaucoma
  • retinal evaluation for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy

We also have three lasers – Argon laser to treat retinal conditions, YAG laser for post-cataract surgery capsulotomy and SLT laser for glaucoma.
