After completing his medical degree at UNSW with Honours in Exercise Physiology in 2000, he completed the Australian Orthopaedic Association Northside Sydney Training Programme and Fellowship in 2009.
To further his specialist training, in 2010 he studied Sports Knee Surgery (Arthroscopic and Reconstructive Surgery) at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and The Mater Hospital, under Dr Merv Cross OAM and Dr Leo Pinczewski. Dr Lyons then spent 12 months in London, Ontario, Canada specializing in Hip and Knee Joint Replacement (Primary and Revision Arthroplasty) under Professors Bob Bourne and Steve MacDonald.
Dr Lyons practice combines the highest ethical and professional standards of care, providing a respectful and caring environment for his patients. He is actively involved in research through the North Sydney Orthopaedic Research Group (www.nsorg.com.au) with numerous peer reviewed publications and presentations.
Matt has a particular interest in difficult & complex joint replacement and revision hip and knee replacement for infection. His high volume practice has afforded him the opportunity to be involved in a number of prosthetic designs.
