Profile

Associate Professor Janet Rimmer is a respiratory physician and allergist who trained in Australia including undertaking an MD thesis entitled “Histamine releasability in asthma” at the Garvan Institute in Sydney. She then undertook further research and clinical training overseas (Prof Steven Holgate’s group at the Dept Immunopharmacology, Southampton and the Brompton Hospital, London). She is primarily a clinician but has been involved in professional organisations including the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (NSW State President, National Honorary Secretary, Treasurer ICACI), Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (Convenor of the Asthma and Allergy SIG), National Asthma Council (Director and ASCIA representative), St Vincent’s Clinic (Chair of the Medical Council and Board), St Vincent’s Private Hospital (Chair Medical Credentials Committee) and Sydney Hospital (Honorary Secretary Department of Medicine and Chair Combined Medical Staff Council). She has been part of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research for 21 years involved in research projects and clinical trials related to asthma, rhinitis and allergic disease.
